A swim team has won 54 medals at their final home meet of the year.

REN96 swim team hosted their fourth home meet of 2024 at Linwood's On-X.

The event, which took place over three days and five sessions, was the club's "biggest, most ambitious event ever," attracting around 200 swimmers from 18 clubs at each session.

The club decided to spread the "joy of distance swimming" by running a Friday night session just for 800m and 1500m events, which was a hit with REN96's own swimmers and others who have struggled to get competitive swims at these longer distances.

REN96's 60 swimmers "looked truly at home" and "really impressed" throughout the whole weekend, taking home 21 gold medals, 19 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals.

They also achieved a further 37 top six places.

The club said this was "even more impressive" when considering the age spread of REN96's swimmers and that there were only two age groups for the meet (15 years and under and 16 years and over).

The club said: "REN96 swimmers’ personal best rate was incredible and the improvements in their skills and race plans were clear to see.

"From volunteers to coaches and technical officials to swimmers REN96 stepped up to arrange and run a meet of which everybody involved should be proud."

A special mention was given to one of the club’s senior swimmers who balances their training with a part-time job and third year of their law degree and still manages to achieve lifetime best times across a whole range of events.

The club said: "She’s a wonderful example and inspiration to REN96’s younger swimmers."

The club also thanked coaches Adam, Rheanna, Ross, Heather, Euan, and Victoria, and all the volunteers for putting in a great team effort to make it possible.
