Johnstone Burgh boss Murdo Mackinnon praised his side's style of play after 3-1 victory over Dundee North End in the Scottish Junior Cup.

The Keanie Park club progressed to the next round thanks to a double from Kian Gilday and a clinical finish by Kyle Lafferty.

Burgh killed the game off early, going three goals up in the first half and MacKinnon was happy with how his team equipped themselves.

He said: "Dundee North End are a really good side and I was impressed with how they set up.

"We knew it would be a tough fixture. I thought we were excellent in the first half and completely blew them away.

"I was really pleased with the level of performance and work rate from the team.

"In the second 45 minutes, they came into the game more but I feel like we handled things very well.

"I am delighted with the result. You always want to dominate a game and we did exactly that."

MacKinnon also talked up the tactical nature of the performance.

He continued: "I have been craving a result like this and I thought we played in a slightly different way on Saturday compared to previous weeks and that proved to be effective.

"Our wide players caused them real problems, we tweaked a couple of things in terms of positional changes and it paid dividends."

Burgh return to West of Scotland League action this weekend when they play Cumnock Juniors at home on Saturday.

And MacKinnon explained the importance of firing on all domestic fronts.

He added: "The league is really important to us but sometimes you need a distraction from it.

"We want to progress in it as much as possible but having a cup run to break things up means expectations rise.

"This gives the supporters something to cling onto. Expectations are high and that is what you want."
