Cochrane Castle Golf Club played host to the Renfrewshire Golf Union (RGU) Boys and Youths Stroke Play Championships 2024.

Struan Brookbank of Kilmacolm Golf Club won the RGU Boys Stroke Play Championship Caven Trophy with a total score of 73, continuing the run of Kilmacolm winners over the previous 3 years. The Gazette:

The RGU Youth Menzies Trophy was won by Euan Urquhart of the Paisley Golf Club with a score of 68.

Euan Urquhart will now qualify for the Youths Match Play Championship for the Duncan Trophy which will be played at Renfrew Golf Club.

The 18-hole course was a test for those taking part as a recent dry spell made the course ground firm whilst the green was in good condition.

The handicap limit for the event was increased to allow younger participants to experience a higher level of competition. The club says this increased their number of entries.

The weather managed to stay dry for the RGU Competition, but the conditions were changeable with heavy cloud cover and a cold breeze. However, the sun still managed to peak through at times.

The lowest net score was by Oliver Logan – Cochrane Castle Golf Club with a net score of 67 off a handicap of 24, edging out Cameron Grose - East Renfrewshire Golf Club on 68.

The 8 scratch qualifiers in the event go forward to the RGU Match Play Championship for the Freedman Trophy which will be at Kilmacolm Golf Club.
