Renfrew picked up their second league win of the season with a 3-1 win over Ashfield on Saturday in a game that had just about everything.
Frew raced into a quick two-goal lead as Dominic Lavelle found the net from 25 yards before James MacLennan was on hand to double the margin when he headed home from Joe McKeown’s cross.
The visitors quickly hit back through Jonny Black before the referee had the red card out – not for the last time – to dismiss Ashfield’s David Leadbitter for a second bookable offence.
It was quickly 10 against 10, however, as McKeown was given his marching orders by the referee.
Sean Doherty was next to be dismissed for the away side as they went down to nine in the final quarter of an hour before Frew spurned a golden chance to seal the points with a missed penalty.
Two members of the visiting coaching staff were then sent off before Lance Pierce’s late challenge had Ashfield down to eight men and there was still time for Clydebank loanee Ben McLernan to make the victory sure for Renfrew with a near post finish.
Next up for Jimmy Quigley’s side is the short trip to Brig O’Lea to take on Neilston. Kick-off on Saturday is at 2.00pm.
