Renfrew manager Jimmy Quigley admits he had mixed emotions after his team earned a point at Thorniewood United on Saturday.
The New Western Park outfit built on their first win of the campaign, against Kilwinning Rangers, by securing a 1-1 draw at Robertson Park.
However, Quigley was far from happy with the nature of Thorniewood's goal.
A mistake in midfield allowed Cammy Smith to put the hosts ahead with just seven minutes played but Ben Harwood equalised for Renfrew not long after the interval.
Quigley told Gazette Sport: “It was a good point away from home. Thorniewood have got a lot of decent players and I think, once they gel together, they will be a real force.
“It was disappointing to lose a goal from us giving the ball away in the middle of the park. It seems that every mistake we are making is getting punished with a goal.
“There hasn’t really been any quality goals against us, they have all been preventable and given away cheaply, whereas the goals we are getting, we are having to really work for."
Quigley was pleased to see his team create some good chances after conceding the opener.
He added: “The game ended up getting really stretched and it was quite a big park.
"After having to make two substitutes after 20 minutes, I was quite limited with the changes I could make.
“I put on three forward-thinking players at the one time to try to get a goal but it upset the rhythm a wee bit.
“We told the boys after the win against Kilwinning that the season had really started.
“The league came a wee bit too early for us in terms of our preparations and the three games a week is killing us just now, with injuries and trying to keep everybody fit.”
Renfrew are back in league action on Wednesday night, when they welcome St Roch’s to town, before making the trip to Yoker Athletic this Saturday for a South Challenge Cup tie.
Quigley hopes to turn New Western Park into a fortress this season and also hinted he may look to use squad rotation for the cup tie at Holm Park.
He added: “We want to build on our home form and make it a hard place for teams to come because that can be crucial for staying in the division.
“We’ll maybe make a couple of changes at the weekend to try to get some boys some game time.”
Wednesday's kick-off is at 8pm, with Saturday’s cup clash getting underway at 2pm.
