Renfrew boss Jimmy Quigley admits he has set his sights on silverware after watching his team advance to the semi-finals of the Strathclyde Demolition Cup.
The New Western Park outfit cruised to a 5-0 win over Third Division opponents Finnart on Saturday, with Ciaran Diver and David McKenna each netting a brace and David McCallum bagging his second goal for the club.
The winners of the competition will have the opportunity to qualify for the following season’s Scottish Cup, should they come out on top in play-off matches against the East of Scotland and South of Scotland cup winners.
And Quigley said strength in depth has been important as his team has secured its place in the last four.
He told Gazette Sport: “I’ve been changing the squad with one or two players in every cup game because boys need a chance to show what they can do.
“They’ve all stepped up to the plate and you wouldn’t know what our strongest team is at the moment.
“Getting through was the main priority but it was a really composed and professional performance. I thought we dominated the game and took our chances when we needed to.
“We scored at good times and, to be fair to Finnart, they tried to play football the right way and get it down but we thought, if we could capitalise at the right moments and press them high, we would get chances.
“We’re looking at the teams left in the competition and we’re quietly confident that we can compete with any of them.
“St Cadoc’s and Whitletts are really good teams and there’s a couple of Division Four teams still to play who are both decent but it’s just about who turns up on the day when it comes to the cup.”
Renfrew will be back in league action this Saturday as a trip to Glasgow Perthshire kicks off a run of three games in seven days.
The clash at Keppoch Park is followed by the visit of Yoker Athletic on Wednesday, November 9, before Renfrew host Threave Rovers a few days later.
Quigley admits it is a difficult schedule but he is relishing the challenges that lie ahead.
He said: “I’ll be rotating the squad for the games but everyone who has come in has done well, so there are places up for grabs and competition is healthy.”
