Renfrew co-manager Colin Clark believes his side are not far away from their first victory in the West Region Premiership, despite seeing Kilbirnie Ladeside run out 4-0 winners on Saturday. 


The Frew had chances to take something from the game, but three second half goals from the visitors added gloss to the score line. 


Clark is pleased, however, to see his side going toe-to-toe with teams and is adamant that the results will soon come for Renfrew. 


He said: “There wasn’t a lot in the game. We started the second half well and hit the bar, had one off the line and had a few more opportunities. It was never a 4-0 game. 


“The next goal was vital at 1-0. If we equalised, which we should have, then we’d have had a real chance. 


“We’ve shown we can compete, but we have got to cut out defensive mistakes and take chances. I’ve no concerns about us competing with teams.” 


The visitors went ahead after half an hour as Frew failed to clear their lines from a set piece and Cory Hughes scored. 


Paddy O’Keefe’s second half lob beat the visiting goalkeeper but not the cross bar as the hosts pushed for an equaliser. 


Dave Gray then doubled Kilbirnie’s lead with a speculative effort before the visitors ran away with it thanksto Ryan Hynes and Joel Kasabundi.


Renfrew now welcome League Two Johnstone Burgh in the Sectional League Cup on Wednesday, a tie which Clark refuses to take for granted despite the difference in leagues between the sides. 


He said: “We’ll give them all the respect they are due. They’ve started well and qualified from their section beating teams from higher divisions.”
