A mum has opened up on a "traumatic" dog attack in Johnstone that left her son requiring hospital treatment and other two children "terrified".

Two people were injured after police were called to a report of a dog biting three people in the Napier Street area of the town at around 3.50pm on Wednesday, November 27.

As well as the woman's son, a 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital and another child was uninjured.

A 39-year-old man has since been charged, with a report submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, was walking in the Napier Street area of Johnstone when the incident occurred.

She insists the family were confronted by an "aggressive dog that was off its leach", leading to the "terrifying" situation.

She said: "I was there with my three children when the incident happened and witnessed my son being bitten by the dog.

"I had to watch my two youngest children run in fear and cower away while I stood in front of the animal with my oldest trying to keep it at bay.

"I dread to think what would have happened if the dog got hold my little one.

"It was a really traumatic experience."

It is understood the dog was seized and the mum of three is also keen to raise awareness of the issue.

She continued: "I do not want any other family to go through this, I am heartbroken at witnessing how upset my family are after the incident.

"Unless you experience it, you will never know how soul destroying it is to watch your children in such danger.

"My son is really shaken up by the whole thing, it is not just the physical aspect but also the psychological impact.

"It is unlikely we will ever want to walk down the cycle path route again after what happened."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 3.50pm on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 to a report of a dog biting three people in the Napier Street area of Johnstone.
