Demonstrating their continued commitment to the community, Allied Vehicles, the UK's leading supplier of adapted and specialised vehicles, has once again pledged support for the Glasgow Times’ Bank on Us appeal.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust has chosen to aid the campaign, which calls on Glasgow Times readers to contribute to a food drive and toy appeal for families in need.
Amid a challenging economic climate, the company recognises the crucial role food banks play in alleviating hardship.
David Facenna, Corporate Culture Director at Allied Vehicles, highlights the urgency of the issue: “We are glad to once again support the Bank on Us appeal with the Glasgow Times. Food banks are continuing to be a lifeline for so many, especially as winter sets in and Christmas approaches. If this campaign can ease the burden even a little for families this holiday season, it will have been worth every effort.”
The Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust, established in 2022, has already had a significant impact on the community. To date, the Trust has donated over £500,000 to charities and community organisations, with the majority of funds staying local to the company’s manufacturing base in north Glasgow.
The Trust’s approach to charity is truly company-wide, involving a committee of employees who meet monthly to deliberate on how best to distribute funds. The committee's task is not an easy one. Every month, they face the difficult challenge of selecting recipients from an ever-growing list of deserving charities, schools, and community organisations.
The Trust is committed to making a year-round difference. By allocating £20,000 each month to various causes, they aim to have a sustained and meaningful impact. Requests for funding are abundant, with over 30 applications received monthly from a wide range of organisations seeking to enhance their communities.
Schools, in particular, have benefitted significantly from the Trust's generosity. Since its inception, nearly 70 donations have been made to local schools, providing resources that enable children to access experiences and opportunities they might otherwise miss. Through these donations, the Trust has enabled students to participate in school trips, funded library books, and enhanced play areas, both indoors and outdoors.
Allied Vehicles’ commitment to social responsibility extends far beyond financial contributions. Through its Charitable Trust, the company fosters a culture that not only benefits recipients but also strengthens Allied’s ties to the community and cultivates a spirit of generosity within its workforce.
In addition to its support for the Bank on Us appeal, the Allied Vehicles Charitable Trust has backed a variety of community initiatives throughout the year. One such initiative that has garnered particular enthusiasm from staff is the Glasgow Spirit of Christmas appeal. Through this annual effort, Allied and its employees have donated over 1,500 gifts to local children, doing their bit to ensure that no child is left without a gift on Christmas morning.
“Supporting charities at Christmas time has become an essential tradition for us at Allied,” David Facenna continues. “Together, the incredible people of Glasgow can make a difference to families struggling during the holiday season. We are proud to be part of this collective effort.”
In a time when many families are facing financial strain, Allied Vehicles’ continued support for the Bank on Us appeal and other charitable initiatives highlights the importance of corporate social responsibility. The Trust’s contributions, alongside the kindness of the people of Glasgow who participate in these drives, serve as a reminder of the strength of community spirit and the power of collective action.
Through initiatives like Bank on Us, Allied Vehicles and its Charitable Trust continue to support community and encourage generosity and giving in Glasgow and beyond.
