A LOCAL MP joined thousands of others across Renfrewshire to pay tribute to the armed forces on Remembrance Sunday.
Alison Taylor laid a wreath at the Renfrew cenotaph, while a member of her team laid one at the Paisley cenotaph on her behalf.
Speaking today, she said: “It has been said our freedom is steeped in the blood of heroes and on Sunday we commemorated the memories of those who went off to war to secure our freedom and defend our liberty.
“We also recognised the continued service and sacrifice our armed services and their families make on our behalf.
“We live in turbulent times and the willingness of young men and women in joining the army, navy, air force and marines and to place themselves in harm’s way to protect us is humbling."
Last week, the Labour MP joined her parliamentary colleagues in placing a cross in the Parliamentary Garden of Remembrance.
She said: “In placing the cross of remembrance, I dedicated it to a young solider called A Taylor, a Royal Engineer from Renfrew.
“Whilst this solider wasn’t a relative of mine, he will have been a son, father, or brother to someone, and his family may still mourn his passing."
With the Erskine Home for veterans based within her constituency, the MP attended their Remembrance service on Armistice Day.
She said: "The Erskine Home for Veterans has stood as a living monument to the heroes of our wars, and I was humbled to be invited to stand amongst living witnesses to some of our worst conflicts in memory of the fallen.
"I am certain all my constituents will join me in paying tribute to our armed forces personnel past and present and the courage, dedication and sacrifice they have made."
