1. They’re six of the best

(Image: Newsquest) Sporty workers from Safeway in Bridge of Weir joined hundreds of fun runners who took part in the Great Scottish Run. They raised awareness for good causes as well as heaps of money for worthy causes. 

2. They’re rolling out a new multi-million pound centre

(Image: Newsquest) First Minister Jack McConnell visited Inchinnan for the opening of Rolls Royce’s new £85 million plant. Mr McConnell described the project as “fantastic” and “a real tribute to Rolls Royce and Inchinnan”. The facility was also opened with the help of Renfrewshire schoolchildren, from Inchinnan, Bishopton, Bargarran and St John Bosco primaries.

3. World record singing attempt

(Image: Newsquest) A Renfrew school took part in a world record singing attempt in aid of Childline. Pupils at Renfrew High joined together to sing Happy Birthday at the same time as thousands of other students across the UK. Organisers were hoping to break the record for simultaneous singing as well as raise funds.

4. Spotlight on community cops

(Image: Newsquest) A quiet rural village saw a dramatic cut in crime thanks to a larger police presence. Lochwinnoch recorded a massive reduction of almost 40 per cent over the previous 12 months thanks to a focused police presence and the use of special constables. 

5. St Luke's awards special

(Image: Newsquest) Top class students from S4 and S5 celebrated their successes at St Luke’s High. The annual awards night in the school showed that examination results continue to improve and ensured that St Luke’s academic attainments featured regularly in the top 10 to 20 per cent of Scottish schools.

6. Pupils play in football competition

(Image: Newsquest) Youngsters from Cross Arthurlie Primary took part in the Bank of Scotland’s Soccer Sevens event. In their three games they drew 0-0, lost 1-0 but raced to a cool 6-0 win. The team were lead by coach Miss Taylor.

7. My Everest climb

(Image: Newsquest) Barrhead man Alan Savage recorded his climb of Mount Everest in a special piece. "The trip was a huge success," he said. "I made it all the way past Gorak Shep — Edmund Hillary’s old base camp — to the modern day Everest base camp."
