The construction of a new Paisley Grammar School remains “on track” as Renfrewshire Council provides its latest update on the major project.
The local authority is working to a planned completion date of the summer of 2026, with the state-of-the-art facility set to open in August of that year.
The £85.5 million development is taking place on land next to the former Chivas administration building on Renfrew Road and will replace its ageing namesake in the town’s Glasgow Road.
An update on the programme of works was included in a report on the learning estate to an education and children’s services policy board.
It said: “The project to deliver a new Paisley Grammar School continues with construction progressing on track.
“A visible structure of what will become the new three-storey school and community campus can now be seen from across Paisley.
“The project is due to complete construction in the summer of 2026. From a construction perspective, all work is planned, and regular updates will be provided to this board at significant milestones during the work.”
The new school is set to be a modern energy-efficient building with full-size sports pitches, outdoor learning and social spaces and a 300-seat theatre.
In the paper which will be considered by councillors on Thursday, officers stressed the importance of planning the fit-out of the school in parallel with the delivery of the actual building.
It added: “Work continues in the planning of all aspects which will contribute to the school operating and delivering in line with the vision.
“This work is being planned significantly well in advance of the school opening due to the complexity of all work associated with planning, procurement, and execution of aspects, including digital, building and school operations, transition planning of resources and people, amongst other complex workstreams.
“All of the above support not only the planning of an exceptional building but the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning within.
“Whilst this is ongoing, we are engaging fully with the school community. Work is ongoing with the school parent council as well as all parent councils of associated primary schools.”
Plans are also in place for Paisley Grammar pupils to visit the site and view the construction first-hand.
