Renfrewshire parents are being urged to register their children for primary school.

The registration period for children starting school in August 2025 is between November 1 and November 8.

Children eligible for registration will turn five between March 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026.

Parents and carers can apply for a school place using the online form on Renfrewshire Council's website: renfrewshire.gov.uk/article/11957/Apply-for-a-place-at-school.

Councillor Emma Rodden, convener of Renfrewshire Council's Education and Children's Services Policy Board, said: "Registering for school is an important milestone for all parents and carers and it can be done online or by speaking to your child’s local school if you don’t want to do it online."

The choice of schools includes the catchment area's denominational (Roman Catholic) or non-denominational school or the Gaelic unit at West Primary.

Birth certificates must be provided to complete the registration process.

Anyone unable to find their child's birth certificate is still encouraged to apply for school, with a replacement birth certificate to be submitted at a later date.

Placing requests to send a child to another school outside their catchment area can be made until March 15, 2025.

Parents of children aged four, who are due to start school, can apply to defer their child's start date and request an additional year of free nursery or childcare.

This requires contacting the child's nursery or childminder first, then registering the child for school, and finally applying to defer via the form on the council's website.

Those unable to fill out the register for school form online are advised to call their catchment school to make an appointment.

Parents and carers can also call 0300 300 0170 for advice and support.
