Major plans have been revealed to upgrade a football ground.

An application for planning permission has been submitted to Renfrewshire Council for works at Johnstone Burgh’s Keanie Park.

The proposals include the replacement of four lighting columns and the erection of four new lighting columns, the installation of a 4G Astro pitch and associated engineering works, and the installation of a portable WC toilet blocks and prefabricated spectator stand.

The application also outlines plans for mechanical and electrical works and other engineering works, outdoor amenity space and landscaping.

A planning statement said: “It is designed to maximise the use of the pitch, with the ability to use the ground in winter months and evening games.

“This is a mandatory requirement for the SFA, so it's vital for the club to install them.”

The plans follow the club’s recent promotion to the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division.

Submitted by Glasgow-based firm GlenEtive Projects on behalf of Scott Graham the club’s director, the application was received by the council on August 23 and validated on Monday, October 7.

It is currently awaiting decision by planners.

The proposals are said to be the initial phase of improvements to make the facility a community club.

“The club has recently been promoted and therefore SFA requirement(s) are the clubs facility must be upgraded,” added the planning statement.

“The overall vision is to create community club for all groups within the local community to use the facility and improvements to the pitch, club and facility to allow access to all groups and disabilities,” added the planning statement.

“Overall, the proposals would make a positive contribution to the local sports and health and wellbeing in Johnstone.”
