1. Glass aims to crack crime in Johnstone

(Image: Newsquest) Johnstone’s new community police chief vowed to protect teenagers in the town and make the area a safer place. Inspector Cassie Glass took over from predecessor Gerry McBride as head of the community unit at Johnstone Police Station. 

2. Sisters' television debut is the icing on the cake

sisters(Image: Newsquest) Sisters Gillian Nichola and Linsey Reith, who gave up their desk jobs to take up a career in cookery, got a taste of stardom after appearing on ITV show This Morning. The Kilmacolm ladies from the Three Sisters Bake cafe were on the popular show to discuss their cookbook, Delectable Recipes For Everyday. As part of What Makes You Happy week, the entrepreneurs met with presenters Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley to chat about their transition from “boring” nine-to-five desk jobs to running their own business together.

3. Johnstone lads sporting their new top

(Image: Newsquest) Johnstone-based side Glentyan Thistle started the New Year with a bang and a new sponsor. Nationwide contractor Avonside Roofing Ltd, who had recently set up a new Scottish branch in Linwood, offered the club a substantial sum to sponsor sets of strips for three of the club’s sides. 

4. First Minister visits Barrhead business

The First Minister was eager to celebrate the milestone moment with bosses and staff at the construction firm.

5. Barrhead Thai boxer set for ‘biggest test yet’

John-Ross MorrisonJohn-Ross Morrison (Image: Newsquest) Barrhead Thai boxer John-Ross Morrison was preparing for the biggest test of his career. The scrapper was set to take on world star Abdoul Toure from France on March 20, 2015 in a WBC International SuperFight. 

6. Hugh presses home the donor message

Hugh Henry (Image: Newsquest) A local MSP was backing a new move to bring changes to the organ donor system which would automatically sign people up. Hugh Henry, who represented Renfrewshire South, supported Labour colleague Anne McTaggart’s bid to shake up the current system of organ donation in Scotland with her proposed Organ Donation Scotland Bill.
