Renfrewshire Council works that are aimed at boosting the safety of a junction in Erskine are set to begin next week and could run for a fortnight.

The project – which has been backed by local elected members – is set to kick off on Monday and last up to two weeks.

The works will take place at the point where Kilpatrick Drive and the A726 Bridgeway meet in the vicinity of Pandamonium Play Centre.

The job is expected to create improved alignments and visibility splays, as well as traffic islands, at a location that has raised some concerns.

Councillors Michelle Campbell and Iain Nicolson, who are both SNP representatives for the town, have welcomed the plans and stated they will monitor the effect the changes have in relation to road safety.

In a joint statement, they said: “We made it a priority in our representations to have this road reviewed for investment by Renfrewshire Council regarding the concerns for safety at the junction due to a number of near misses over the years.

“These junction improvement works are welcomed and we will continue to monitor the progress and impacts of the changes on the concerns of road safety at this location.

“Our representations will continue [to] reflect the local priorities and concerns for our communities.”

The local authority confirmed the works are due to commence from Monday, October 14 and are scheduled to last a period of 14 days.

Traffic management and diversions will be in place, with Kilpatrick Drive closed for the duration of the works between the minor roundabout and the junction with the A726. Access and egress will be maintained at the Mainsholm roundabout.

Meanwhile, the northbound lane of the A726 will be closed between Monday, October 21 and Friday, October 25.

Councillors Campbell and Nicolson added the diversion will be via Centreholm, A726 Bridgeway, A726 Southbar Road, A8 Greenock Road, B815 Erskine Ferry Road and A726 Bridgeway.
