Plans to introduce a car buying service in the grounds of a supermarket in Johnstone have been submitted to Renfrewshire Council.
Planning permission has been requested for the introduction of a We Buy Any Car pod in the Morrisons car park in Napier Street.
Agent company Peacock and Smith has presented the application to the local authority on behalf of the major retailer.
The extent of the project was outlined in a cover letter, which said: “The proposed development by Morrisons seeks to supply a We Buy Any Car pod service for the general public within the existing Morrisons car park.
“We Buy Any Car provides a quick easy sale as an alternative to private car sales.
“Customers are offered an online quotation for the sale of their vehicle and if accepted it can be taken to one of their 140 local purchasing points across the UK.
“The aim of these structures is to operate a sustainable service coinciding with existing shopping trips.”
If given the green light by the council, the development would consist of a prefabricated modular pod in the north-west corner of the car park.
The letter added: “The development will require 12 undesignated parking spaces, two of which will occupy the pod structure and 10 reserved for purchased cars.
“This is to ensure that space is available for customers and regular collection can be carried out without overspill onto adjoining areas of the car park.
“Locating the pod in such a way reduces the impacts of the proposed use.
“The loss of just two spaces will have a less than significant impact on the capacity and safe function of the car park, therefore the proposal will not adversely affect the car park’s operation or highway safety.
“The cars will stay on site for a maximum of 72 hours. However, this is generally a much shorter period. The cars are removed from the site by individual vehicle collections.”
A decision will be made on the application at a later date.
