Renfrewshire primary school children are being asked to design a Christmas card.

Provost Lorraine Cameron is inviting children to take part in the competition.

Three winners will be selected with each winner having the chance to push the button to switch on the Christmas lights in either Paisley, Johnstone or Renfrew.

The winning designs will also be made into digital cards and sent around the world from the Provost.

This year, the theme is 'Christmas Dinner'.

Although there will only be three winners, all entries will be given to the I Am Me Scotland charity which will distribute them to elderly residents in Renfrewshire.

The charity works to change attitudes and behaviours so that disabled and vulnerable people can feel safe in their communities.

Each card should have a message such as "I hope you have a lovely Christmas", and be signed with the child's first name, age and school.

Provost Cameron said: "I'm delighted to be bringing back my Christmas Card Competition again.

"Switching on the Christmas lights is a really important job and I need someone to help make sure it all goes smoothly.

"This year I want to see cards with a Christmas Dinner theme.

"You can be as creative and fun as you like.

"Maybe it's your own Christmas dinner with your family, or maybe it's Santa having Christmas dinner with the reindeer.

"I want to see them all."

All entries should be on A4 card or paper so that it can be folded into an A5 card with the message inside.

Entries must be received by October 24 and can be posted to Renfrewshire Council in Paisley.
