AN application has been submitted for listed building consent to demolish a Victorian former nursing home which was ravaged by fire.

The proposed works relate to the original building and the rear and southern extensions of Spiersfield House on Stevenson Street in Paisley.

According to the application, the demolition of these is being proposed because they are “structurally unsafe and beyond saving.”

(Image: Newsquest) The application has been submitted nearly eight weeks after 999 crews raced to the derelict site shortly after 2.30am on August 1.

In total, three fire trucks were sent to the scene to deal with the inferno at the historic category B-listed building.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed at the time that no one was injured in the blaze.

Most recently, it was used as a nursing home with an attached modern extension on the right-hand side of the building, which was unaffected by the fire.

A letter accompanying the application from an architectural consultant on behalf of the applicant said: “The two-storey brick extension is currently going through the building warrant process after obtaining planning consent for an HMO (house in multiple occupation).

“Unfortunately, the original house has suffered extensive damage due to a recent fire that has made the building structurally unsafe.

“A structural report is contained within the listed building application confirming that unfortunately, the original building is beyond saving.”
