1. Future is bright for Thorn Athletic
Thorn Athletic youngsters were in a party mood after rounding off a fantastic first season in the Paisley, Johnstone District Youth Football League. Around 30 kids from the 2007 and 2008 age groups, sponsored by the Hazel l Arms Family Restaurant in Johnstone Castle, gathered at the McMaster Sports Centre in Johnstone for a presentation with a difference. The kids enjoyed some fun with bouncy castles and football shootouts before being rewarded with Happy Meals from McDonald's.
2. Adamson races ahead of the chasing motocross pack
Houston motocross sensation John Adamson was in action in the first round of the Melville Winter Motocross Series and bagged a hat-trick of wins. Team AAA made the trip to the popular track near Edinburgh for the 18-year-old to pit his wits against the best the sport has to offer in Scotland and England.
3. Erskine teenager Jasmine shines in chemistry exam
A bright Erskine teenager received the Royal society of Chemistry Award for achieving top marks in her 2014 Higher exam. Jasmine Aikman was joint first in the chemistry exam which over 10,500 pupils across Scotland sat the previous May.
4. Shelving Black Friday to help those in need
Christmas is often the time of year when families who are struggling find it especially difficult to make ends meet. But big-hearted shoppers in Renfrewshire rallied round to help make sure struggling parents. Customers and staff at the newly-opened Tesco in Linwood shunned the bargain hunting frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday to concentrate on thinking about those who can’t afford a meal.
5. Renfrew’s brightest stars in sparkling charity effort
Staff and youngsters at ABC Childminder’s group in Renfrew raised an incredible £776 for local charity Brightest Star.
6. Sweet treat for village care home residents
Elderly residents in a Bishopton care home enjoyed a night with a twist when expert mixologists paid them a visit. More than 50 residents took part in the new initiative named community cocktails at Erskine Care Home in the village. The project was devised to bring a glamorous, premium cocktail bar experience to care homes and charitable organisations in Renfrewshire and beyond.
