A Scottish Government minister visited a charity to discuss plans for a new social enterprise.

Shopmobility Renfrewshire welcomed Tom Arthur MSP, minister for social enterprise, to their office in Paisley.

The charity, which helps people with mobility issues, is set to start a new social enterprise as part of its planned expansion.

The new venture will see income from their repairs service, which fixes mobility scooters, be reinvested into the charity.

This will help Shopmobility Renfrewshire continue its services and help more people in the community.

Karen Miller, office manager and fundraising officer for Shopmobility Renfrewshire, said: "We were delighted to host the Scottish Government minister for social enterprise, Tom Arthur MSP, to our office to discuss the role of social enterprises within Scotland.

"It was an honour to host this partnership meeting with Community Enterprise and Tom Arthur MSP, the Scottish Government minister for social enterprise.

"It gave us a chance to explain the impact of the ACCELERATE programme on our plans to develop the charity as a social enterprise and contribute to community wealth building."

Mr Arthur also took the time to talk about Scotland's plans to promote social enterprise and community wealth building.

Tom Arthur MSP is the constituency MSP for Renfrewshire South.

Ms Miller stated that it was great to hear the plans that the Scottish Government has to promote not just social enterprise but also the wider community wealth-building agenda.

She said: "We are so pleased that he took the time to outline the bigger political picture and to see for himself the work that we are doing within Shopmobility Renfrewshire."

The charity has previously taken part in Community Enterprise's ACCELERATE business development programme.
