West Scotland MSP Paul O’Kane and Paisley and Renfrewshire South MP Johanna Baxter held a street surgery in Lochwinnoch this week.

The politicians chatted to residents in Braehead Avenue, Calderpark Avenue, Crookhill Gardens and Semele Avenue.

Mr O’Kane said: “We don’t want to take it for granted that constituents who have issues or concerns will contact their local representatives.

"Street surgeries are another way of ensuring people can get in touch with us about the issues that matter to them.

“An MP and MSP being visible and accessible to local people is what our jobs are all about and that’s why we’re determined to do more of these across Renfrewshire.”

Lochwinnoch constituents were informed by leaflet a few days prior to the surgery of when Mr O’Kane and Ms Baxter would be in their street.

If locals wished to speak to either representative, they were asked to put the leaflet on the front window of their house.

Ms Baxter added: “I hope that constituents find it refreshing that as well as being able to come along to a surgery in a supermarket or visiting the local office, they also have the option of speaking to us from their own garden, driveway or doorstep.

“Street surgeries demonstrate our determination as elected representatives at all levels to work together for the benefit of our constituents.

“Walking the streets during the General Election campaign gave me such a valuable insight into what local people really cared about.

"That sense of what really matters to people is something that will be so important to carry with me in my next five years as MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South.”
