A PAISLEY man allegedly broke into a home in Clydebank before stealing a car and driving off whilst intoxicated.
Residents in Whitecrook were woken by their dog barking and went on to discover someone was driving away in their car at 2.45am on August 15.
Police officers attended and were able to locate the suspect after the vehicle was found on a nearby street with a man still in the driver's seat.
Meanwhile, on the neighbouring street, another man woke to a light on in his home before he discovered his back door was lying open.
The resident then found that cash and personal items had been stolen.
After enquiries, the man who had stolen the vehicle was identified as allegedly having broken into the second address.
The 40-year-old, from Paisley, was arrested for driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs and taken to Clydebank police station.
He has since been charged with theft, theft by housebreaking, driving whilst unfit due to drugs, no licence, no insurance, and resisting arrest.
He is being held in custody awaiting court.
