A TOTAL of 22 streets across Renfrewshire are set for an exemption from new pavement parking restrictions. 

New parking laws will be enforced by Renfrewshire Council this November, meaning parking on pavements, double parking as well as parking in front of a dropped kerb will be banned. 

A consultation period is now underway and will run until September 11, when objections to the proposed exemptions will be put to the council for consideration.

If there are no objections to the proposed exemptions, they will come into effect alongside the enforcement of the new restrictions in November. 

Exemptions have been applied to streets that require pavement parking for emergency vehicles to pass through or where there is at least 1.5 metres of space for pedestrians whilst a car is parked on the pavement. 

The locations proposed for exemptions are:

Bishopton:

  • Cawdor Crescent (east side)
  • Ettrick Drive (east side)
  • Greenock Road (at West Porton Place)
  • Morar Crescent (east side)
  • Teviot Drive (east side)
  • Yarrow Crescent (east side)

Bridge of Weir:

  • Houston Road (south side of the service road at Elm Road)
  • Houston Road (both sides between Warlock Road and Freeland Drive)

Crosslee:

  • Houston Road (east side between Whirlie Road and Crosslee Park)

Elderslie:

  • Glenpatrick Road (east side between Kings Crescent and Edzell Drive)

Johnstone:

  • Burns Drive (both sides between Scott Avenue and Burns Avenue)
  • Graham Street (north side between Hagg Road and Hagg Crescent)

Kilbarchan:

  • The Grove (entire road)
  • Low Barholm (south side, from 12 to 20)

Langbank:

  • Middlepenny Road (north side, from 18 to 20)

Linwood:

  • Kintyre Avenue (south side, from 25 to 73)

Lochwinnoch:

  • Newton of Barr (north side)

Paisley:

  • Andrew Street (north side, between Caledonia Street and Albion Street)
  • Blythswood Drive (south side, between Caledonia Street and Albion Street)
  • Penilee Road (both sides, between Auchmannoch Avenue and School Road)

Renfrew:

  • East Avenue (north side)
  • West Avenue (north side)

All exemptions will be made clear to drivers through appropriate signage and road markings, the council have also said they will raise awareness of the new rules before they come into force. 

Every other street in Renfrewshire not listed will be subject to the new parking rules come November.

Failure to park according to the new legislation will result in a £100 Penalty Charge Notice, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.
