TWO brothers put the summer holidays to good use by spending some time tidying up their school entrance.

Ronnie and Arlo Aitken, aged 10 and seven, cut back overgrown branches making road signs and a public defibrillator more visible.

Both attending Wallace Primary School in Elderslie, the boys “mentioned children being hit in the face by overgrown branches as they come and go from the school” said mum, Antonia Aitken.

“They were also worried about pupils not being seen as there are lots of cars in the area at school drop off/pick up times.

“Ronnie was particularly concerned that the defibrillator outside the school had become hidden."

The boys were also keen to avoid boredom in the final weeks of their summer holidays.

Antonia added: “Their dad jokingly suggested they go and tackle the trees at the school entrance, and they responded enthusiastically.

“It took them less than an hour. They bagged up all the branches and even swept the pavement after.

“I’m very proud of both of them, it’s made a huge difference. They’ve both been delighted with the feedback already from local residents and their headteacher."
