A local care worker has won a national talent competition which left Real Housewives of Cheshire star Tanya Bardsley teary-eyed.

Gordon Robertson, who works for Visiting Angels Renfrewshire, won the grande finale of the Got Talent (HCGT) competition with his original song "Boys Will Be Boys."

It followed an intense round of semi-finals.

The song, about his experiences of being bullied in school, was performed at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York.

He was awarded a prize package that includes £1,000 cash, a holiday for two, and the chance to perform at Carefest, an annual celebration of healthcare workers that raises money for The Care Workers Charity.

Gordon said: "I’m absolutely delighted and can’t believe that something I wrote has won me the competition, especially given how incredible all the acts were."

His performance won him a standing ovation and left some judges speechless.

Reality star Tanya said: "I’m in total shock.

“I relate to Gordon’s story in his song, having experienced bullying myself. I was stunned by his amazing vocal and songwriting ability.

“It’s an inspiration in the way he has positively channelled the hardships he faced by giving back to others through his career in care.

“Gordon brought his musicianship, song writing and a tremendous performance.

“As a former teacher myself, he needs to get that song out there and into schools for the kids who are also struggling."

The competition, organised by Visiting Angels UK, saw 12 acts reach the final after a semi-final round.

The acts included baton twirling, singing, and dancing.

The judges also included radio host Becky Measures, presenter Duncan Wood, and musician Simon Frederick Stevens.

Dan Archer, chief executive officer of Visiting Angels UK, said: “Our perspective on caregivers has always been that they are amazing, talented and wonderful people.

“It’s been a genuine pleasure to have the rest of the industry share this event with us so we can celebrate carers in this way.”
