“People are coming to Paisley instead of Glasgow now,” says the owner of a new takeaway restaurant in the town centre.
Grish Sharma is the owner of Aladdin Grill & Shawarma in Paisley, which had its grand opening on August 8.
Serving a range of curries, kebabs, shawarma and desserts, Aladdin Grill is the result of eight months of hard work and graft, transforming what was previously a bookkeeper into a sparkling new restaurant.
“It’s exciting to see it all come together,” said Grish. “I’ve got a lot of confidence in the team - I know they’ll do well.
“To run a good restaurant, you need tasty food, which we’ve definitely got, but also cleanliness, and good design. We had this whole place designed by a professional designer.
“Everything is made fresh every day, nothing gets kept over from the day before. And the curries are amazing - big portions too.”
This new venture continues a long family tradition of running restaurants. Grish’s father opened the Mount Everest restaurant in Glasgow fifty years ago, one of the first to serve Indian food in the city.
Aladdin is also a family-owned business, and Grish says his daughter Selina will be helping out in the shop alongside her studies. She’s currently studying law at Glasgow University and says she hopes to one day become a crime scene investigator.
“I think it’s going to be very busy in here,” she said. I’m sure it will be popular. It’s in a great location.”
Grish - whose personal favourite is cauliflower curry with tarka dhal - said that lots of positive development is taking place in Paisley at the moment.
“Paisley’s up and coming,” he said. “There’s lots of money being spent to regenerate the West End, lots of new houses being built. There’s a great food industry here as well.
“There’s students coming here from all over the world. People are coming to Paisley now instead of Glasgow.”
Aladdin Grill & Shawarma is open now at 74 Causeyside Street, Paisley.
