WORKS to address an “issue” with tarmac in Bridge of Weir – following the completion of a project to alleviate sewer flooding – will take place next week.

Scottish Water has confirmed it will be carrying out a “minor remedial” job in Main Street at the junction with Mill Brae, starting on Monday for three days.

It comes after a recent £1 million investment in the sewer network in the village, which involved the installation of a new section to boost capacity during adverse weather.

A Scottish Water update said: “We will be carrying out some minor remedial works following completion of our project to alleviate sewer flooding in Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire.

“Since completing the upgrade of the local sewer network on Main Street, there has been an issue with some of the tarmac around its junction with Mill Brae.

“Renfrewshire Council has granted permission for us to return and reinstate the carriageway from Monday, August 12, for three days. The work has been timed to be completed before the end of the school holidays.

“Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place on Main Street along with on-street parking restrictions. Pedestrian access will be maintained to Mill Brae.”

Councillor James MacLaren, a Conservative representative for the village, said: “To be honest, I haven’t noticed anything wrong with it but if it needs sorted, it needs to be done.

“It’s just a shame that the end of the project would appear to have come too late for a number of the businesses in Bridge of Weir that have closed their doors in the last few months.

“However, it will be a relief for the businesses that are still there, with the upgrade of the sewer network complete, that this should hopefully be the last of any disruption.”

When contacted by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a Scottish Water spokesperson added: “We appreciate there will be some inconvenience and we would like to thank residents, road users and businesses for their patience and understanding.”
