A Renfrewshire hospice has welcomed a visit from Scotland's health secretary.

ACCORD Hospice in Paisley hosted Neil Gray, on Thursday, August 8.

Mr Gray met with staff and patients to hear about the work they do to support the people of Renfrewshire/East Renfrewshire, re-enforcing his commitment to support hospices and hospice care across Scotland.

The visit included an insightful discussion about hospice care, featuring guests Helen Malo from Hospice UK and Dr David Gray from ACCORD Hospice.

The conversation revolved around the challenges and opportunities within the hospice care sector, exploring ways to improve patient care and support for families.

Jacki Smart, CEO at ACCORD, said: "We were honoured to host Mr Gray and showcase the critical work being done at ACCORD Hospice.

"This visit highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in supporting and advancing hospice care and ensuring that patients receive compassionate and dignified care during their final days."

During the visit, the health secretary was also given a tour of the hospice's facilities.

He met with staff and volunteers and expressed his gratitude for their dedication to delivering exceptional care.

Mr Gray said: "Care for people towards the end of life is a key priority for the Scottish government.

"Where possible, we want people to receive timely and high-quality palliative care where they feel most comfortable.

"It’s been really valuable to see the vital services ACCORD Hospice provides.

"We know that there is huge dedication across all sectors and partners who work to deliver palliative and end-of-life care and we remain committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders going forward."

The visit concluded with a renewed commitment from all parties to work together in fostering a supportive environment for hospice care across Scotland, ensuring that every individual receives the highest standard of care at the end of their life.
