A TikTok star is set to appear at the Waterstones in Braehead this weekend as part of his book tour.

Alex Howard will be at the store on August 10 at 5pm.

The appearance is due to his book, The Ghost Cat, being named Waterstones Scottish Book of the Month for August.

The book discusses big questions of existence through its main character, a cat journeying through time.

The Ghost Cat makes his way through the fashion, politics, and technological advances of the modern era over a century, alongside the changing inhabitants of an Edinburgh tenement.

The central character, Grimalkin observes the arrival of electricity, motorcars, and television sets throughout the years.

It also acknowledges several historic occasions such as World War II and Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.

London-born Howard, who was nearly 300k TikTok followers, relocated to Scotland to study English literature at the University of Edinburgh.

After securing top grades in his MA education, he pursued a PhD focused on 20th-century poetry from which his academic book Larkin’s Travelling Spirit (Palgrave, 2020) emerged.

His works have been published in multiple literary platforms like New Writing Scotland, The London Magazine and Gutter to name a few.

He has also read at the prestigious Edinburgh International Book Festival and received an honour at The Charles Causley Poetry Prize.

Presently, aside from writing, he works as a Creative Engagement Coordinator at Capital Theatres.
