Work is set to begin on a new dog run in Robertson Park following delays caused by the late arrival of component parts.

John Shaw, councillor for Renfrew North and Braehead, confirmed in a Facebook post that work on the new dog run would get underway next week.

Construction of the run was supposed to commence the week of July 29, but Cllr Shaw said there had been a delay caused by steel components not arriving on time.

It was not lost on the councillor that Rangers had experienced similar issues with steel deliveries, which have caused development works at Ibrox to overrun and forced the Gers to play home games at Hampden.

The work at the dog run was “due to start this week but unfortunately, there was a delay in the arrival of some cut steel components for the job,” said Cllr Shaw.

“Please, no jokes about shipping our dugs to Hampden on a temporary basis, I'd get into bother for that!” he joked.

The councillor also thanked Renfrew Development Trust for its involvement in the project.

“I'd suggested this project for funding at the Local Partnership in September last year and was pleased when the award was agreed,” he said. “Thanks must go to Renfrew Development Trust who then took up the running on agreeing the specifications.”

Though there was previously a dog run in Robertson Park, Cllr Shaw said the new one will be significantly larger, with a new access route added from the Paisley Road entrance.

“I'm told the new run will be three times the size of the old one,” he added, “close to the size of the new tennis courts, with a new paved access from the path entering the park from Paisley Road.

“The run will also stand alone and not share any boundaries with the flats behind it or the tennis courts.”
