Join us as we take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about what was happening ten years ago in East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire.
We have delved into the Barrhead News and Gazette archives to pick out some stories from around a decade ago.
Here are some photographs from our editions which were published on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.
Do you remember these stories or spot any familiar faces?
1. Belgians on the trail of town’s sporting son
A Belgian reporter chronicling the life of Alex McLeish made a flying visit to Barrhead. Marnik Geukens, a reporter for the Belgian national newspaper Het Belang van Limburg, went on a mini tour of Barrhead and quizzed our own reporter Sean Rooney. It came after Alex McLeish was named manager of KRC Genk in August 2014 after more than a year and a half out of the football management game.
2. Stamping out the litterbugs
A Neilston community group took matters into its own hands by hitting back at litter bugs. Neilston Community Repair said it was at the end of its tether over mounting litter problems on the village’s Main Street.
3. Youngsters cooking up a storm
The competition heated up in an East Renfrewshire wide competition to find the best young chefs. Tensions simmered away in the cook-off which involved all the Barrhead schools.
4. A sea of colourful costumes
Bookworms at Kilmacolm Primary enjoyed a Roald Dahl themed day. The event proved a great deal of fun for everyone involved but also raised money for seriously ill children.
5. A trip into the past with a modern twist
A pensioner released his second children’s novel after getting advice from his grandson about modern trends. Kilbarchan author Jack Hastie helped to open the minds of youngsters with his latest book Neither Dead Nor Alive.
6. Telly stars swap autocue for the kitchen
Telly presenters David Farrell and Jennifer Reoch swapped cameras and autocues for the kitchen and cooking. The stars of STV Glasgow’s Riverside Show hosted a free three-day food festival at the intu Braehead shopping mall.
