Renfrewshire Council has condemned a shocking instance of fly-tipping as it assured residents that the items are scheduled for removal.

Yesterday (Thursday, June 28) we reported that angry locals had expressed outrage after a huge pile of slabs was dumped on Maxwellton Road in Paisley this week.

The discarded items were strewn across the pavement directly opposite St Mary’s Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class.

The slabs were dumped in such as way that the passage along the pavement has been completely obstructed for pedestrians, with some also spilling onto the road, prompting safety concerns.

A council spokesperson said: "There is no excuse for fly tipping.

"It is illegal, unsightly and damages our environment.

"As part of our Team Up to Clean Up campaign, we have created a team dedicated to catching people and businesses in the act and they carry out daily proactive visits to hot spot areas and respond to reports from elected members and the public.

"We always seek to identify and issue the maximum possible fines to the person or business responsible and report to them to the Procurator Fiscal when appropriate.

"This fly tipping has been identified, investigated and is scheduled for removal."
