Nearly 40 people gathered at Barshaw Park on Sunday to share meals and learn about their local community garden.

The gathering is part of the Big Lunch, an idea from the Eden Project, which also saw individuals attend workshops led by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Funded by The National Lottery, the project has seen more than 400 activities aimed at fostering community spirit across Scotland taking place throughout June.

The Big Lunch forms part of Month of Community and its goal is to reduce loneliness, promote local green space use, and socialise.

Martin Quigley, from Eden Project Communities Scotland, said: "After the recent exciting news that planning had been approved for Eden Project in Dundee we were delighted Paisley was a such a planet positive event with lots of ideas and connections being made.

"It just highlights the positive impact The Big Lunch can have as a catalyst for community action."

Maria Venditozzi, a volunteer with Friends of Barshaw Park, said: “Big Lunch events like this are so important because they bring people from different aspects of community together and you can see there’s a lot of goodwill here, friendship and camaraderie.

“Our Big Lunch has brought people together to enjoy food that’s healthy and nutritious, to enjoy fun and friendship and that’s what we’re all about.”

Meanwhile, in Giffnock, more than 200 people attended a Big Lunch hosted by Grow 73.

The charity, along with a number of local community and sporting organisations, launched a new Space for All project, a multi-organisational initiative designed to spark community, sports, and wellness.
