Detective are appealing for information after a 25-year-old man was taken to hospital after being assaulted in Paisley.

According to police, the incident took place around 7pm on Monday, June 17 when a man and a woman were walking along Gilmour Street near to the Cenotaph.

The pair then became involved in an altercation with two men and a woman and the disturbance resulted in the man being assaulted in a lane next to Gilmour Street.

Detective Constable Kate Wason, from Paisley CID, said: "Enquiries are ongoing to trace the person responsible for this serious assault and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that could assist our investigation."

The man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment to a serious facial injury.

The suspect is described as being a white man with dark hair and dark facial hair.

He was wearing a blue and red jacket, a black Guns & Roses t-shirt, dark trousers and white hi-top Nike Dunk trainers.

He was also carrying a Lidl carrier bag.

“We are appealing to members of the public who either witnessed what happened, or who saw a man in the area matching the above description, to please get in touch,” added DC Wason.
