We’re taking a look back at what was happening across Renfrewshire this time 10 years ago.

We have dived into the extensive archives here at the Gazette and had a look at Wednesday, June 25, to find and share some of the content that we covered then.

Do you recognise or remember these stories?

1. Praise for mobility volunteers at centre

(Image: Newsquest) Volunteers were praised for their work in improving the lives of those who suffer from poor mobility. Renfrewshire Provost Anne Hall visited intu Braehead to hand out certificates recognising the efforts of the volunteers who help run the shopping centre’s Shopmobility service. The mall then treated them to a slap-up lunch in the centre’s Filling Station restaurant.

2. Support group scoops free summer day out

(Image: Newsquest) The winner of the Gazette and Johnstone TOA’s competition was revealed. The voting was close – but it was Renfrew’s Our Place, Our Families who came out on top and scooped the prize of a summer day trip.

3. Bank worker cashes in winning top volunteer award

(Image: Newsquest) A Kilbarchan bank employee was named employee volunteer of the year for his commitment to the local community. David Blair, a Clydesdale Bank employee, received the title as part of the prestigious Scottish Business in the Community (SBC) awards.

4. Community green space opened after years of work

(Image: Newsquest) THE grass was greener for budding gardeners at the opening of a new community facility in Renfrewshire. Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardeners (RAGG) gathered to celebrate the launch of the Garden of Dreams. The peaceful plot was finally completed and opened to the public after four years of ideas and hard work. Organisers behind the project transformed the piece of disused land between Broadloan and Bute Avenue into a charming community garden.

5. Poignant service held for Armed Forces Day

(Image: Newsquest) THE people of Renfrewshire once again paid tribute to local servicemen and women as part of national Armed Forces Day. The official flag was raised during a special ceremony outside Renfrewshire Council’s headquarters in Paisley, followed by a service in Paisley Abbey.

6. Sunshine brought out thousands at gala days

(Image: Newsquest) Thousands of villagers made the most of the sunshine for some of Renfrewshire’s hottest gala events. Families from Lochwinnoch, Bridge of Weir and Bishopton were out in full force to take part in the annual celebrations.
