Jack Clark has been selected by Renfrewshire Liberal Democrats as their candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire South for the 2024 general election.

A graduate from the University of Glasgow with a Masters in Economics, Mr Clark previously studied politics at the University of the West of Scotland in Paisley.

He currently works for Liberal Democrat MP Richard Foord.

Mr Clark, who stood for the constituency in 2019, said the country is at a “crucial moment”, adding: "There is such a strong sense of community in Paisley and Renfrewshire, and it’s somewhere I am proud to now call home.

"However, huge challenges, such as the cost-of-living crisis and the impact of 13 years of Conservative government, means that it’s time for change.

"2024 will be a crucial year for our country, and we are faced with a stark choice over whether to continue down a path of chaos and culture wars, or change to one of hope and integrity.

"I choose the latter, and I want to fight for a fair deal for local people. That means real action on the cost of living, real action on climate change and water pollution, and real action to clean up our politics and make our country a better place to live.

“We have had 13 years of the Conservatives trashing our economy, squeezing budgets, robbing from the poor to feed the rich, as well as 16 years of the SNP focusing on dividing our country to the detriment of our politics and our public services. It’s time for change, and that means backing me as your Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate in Paisley & Renfrewshire South."

Backing Mr Clark is Anne Hannigan, Scottish Liberal Democrat Councillor for Paisley Southwest, who described him as a driven and committed candidate.

She said: "I’m delighted that Jack has been selected as our candidate. He has the energy and ideas we need to reshape Renfrewshire for the better.”

Meanwhile, Alex Cole-Hamilton, the Scottish Liberal Democrat leader, said Mr Clark is a "a fantastic candidate" who cares about the local area.

He added: "The Scottish Liberal Democrats have seen a huge resurgence in recent years, showing that we can take seats off both the Conservatives and the SNP.

"By lending Jack your support, Paisley and Renfrewshire South can have that strong Lib Dem representation in parliament.
