TWO Renfrewshire towns are set to officially mark the start of the festive season as they prepare to switch on their Christmas lights in the coming weeks.
It comes after the council has revealed the agendas for Renfrew's Christmas light switch-on on Saturday, November 5 and Johnstone's on Saturday, December 2.
Here's everything you need to know about Renfrew's event, which will be held in Robertson's Park:
- The event will start at 12pm and include a "sleigh-load of free activities."
- There will be live stage performances from local acts throughout the day, a family funfair, and a Christmas tree trail to meet Santa in his Grotto.
- There will also be workshops including Christmas arts and crafts, and a Christmas Market selling seasonal fare.
- Renfrewshire Toy Bank will also be in the park until 2.30pm, accepting donations for youngsters.
- The day will then culminate with the traditional Renfrew Burgh Band carol concert, which will take place in the McMaster Centre at 3.30pm, followed by the light switch-on at 5pm.
Here's everything you need to know about Johnstone's event, which will take place in Houstoun Square:
- It will include entertainment from the bandstand from 1pm with Johnstone Sound and local arts performing live throughout the day.
- Santa will also be in the town to meet local youngsters.
- A Christmas market will also be hosted by St Vincent's Hospice.
- There will also be activities for all ages, including a funfair and film showings.
- Then the lights will be switched on at 5pm at the bandstand.
Renfrewshire’s Provost Lorraine Cameron said: “I can’t wait to see everyone out celebrating the festive season this year.
“Switching the lights on is always a highlight of my year and I am excited to once again be able to give local children the opportunity to take part in this special moment through my Christmas Card Competition.
“There’s always a great atmosphere in our communities on the day as everyone gets in to the Christmas spirit, and with so much to do in both Renfrew and Johnstone this year it’s a fantastic day out for the whole family.”
