A MANHUNT has been launched for an escaped prisoner amid an ongoing incident at Glasgow Airport.
It comes as the Met Police told The Gazette an “alert” was issued by Counter Terrorism Command earlier today in relation to Daniel Abed Khalife who escaped HMP Wandsworth this morning (Wednesday, September 6).
The 21-year-old was on remand awaiting trial in relation to terrorism and Official Secrets Act offences.
It has not been confirmed that the incidents are linked.
We previously reported that passengers at Glasgow Airport are demanding answers over an apparent delay in security.
One passenger told the Glasgow Times cops were checking travellers passports manually and they queued for over an hour.
Several other passengers have taken to X claiming that there is an ongoing incident in the airport.
It is understood the airport issue is a UK-wide problem.
However, the Home Office said they are unable to comment at this time.
It is believed the escapee left the prison at 7.50am.
He is described as being of slim build, short brown hair, and around 6ft 2ins tall.
According to authorities, he has links to the Kingston area and it is believed he likely remains in London, although he may have travelled further afield.
Members of the public are being advised to not approach the man and call 999 immediately if they see him, quoting reference CAD 1631/06SEP23.
Commander Dominic Murphy, Head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “We have a team of officers who are making extensive and urgent enquiries in order to locate and detain Khalife as quickly as possible.
"However, the public can help us as well and should anyone see Khalife, or have any information as to where he might be, then please call 999 immediately.
“I also want to reassure the public that we have no information which indicates, nor any reason to believe that Khalife poses a threat to the wider public, but our advice if you do see him is not to approach him and call 999 straight away.”
A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “Additional temporary security measures have been put in place by UK Border Force. Understand this is UK-wide."
