A pair of Elderslie residents are encouraging people to get involved in their new social enterprise.

We previously reported how John O’Neill and Lindsay Brown hope the Wallace Foundation will bring more investment to the local community, which they claim has been neglected in recent times.

The duo, who were previously members of Elderslie Community Council, are now looking for volunteers to help them get their new venture up and running.

John told The Gazette: "Over the summer, I've been talking to a lot of people and organisations about the Wallace Foundation but now we need to get it going.

"One of the first things we are going to start up is The Wallace Buddies Travel Club, which is going to offer travel opportunities.

"If you become a member of the Wallace Foundation, you will automatically become a member of this travel club."

It is also hoped that funds can be raised to improve the condition of Elderslie's Wallace Monument, as well as a popular wishing well near the village's golf course.

The planned projects are designed to help develop Elderslie, which has long declared itself as the birthplace of the Scottish historical figure William Wallace, as a visitor destination.

John added: "We're going to set up some sort of training programme and help create jobs.

"Any profits made by organisations that join the Wallace Foundation will stay with them so they'll be able to do things in their own community."
