YOUNGSTERS at a school in Paisley have been using art to showcase the importance of treating people with respect and kindness.
It comes after pupils at Kibble’s Goudie Academy completed a project that they called “We are not all in the same boat, but we are in the same storm” to celebrate the difference everyone has with a reminder to be kind.
The collaborative project, which was inspired by a poem of the same name from author Damian Barr, involved youths and staff members at the school casting and decorating a plaster boat.
One of the kids that took part said: “I designed my boat based on the one I sailed on during an adventure trip with Ocean Youth Trust.
“I now understand how many things you need to think of when sailing a boat – a lifejacket is needed and you need to know how to tie knots and keep the boat clean from salt water.
“This art project helped us all realise the same is true for life and some people have access to helpful tools that others may not.”
Jim Gillespie, chief executive officer of Kibble, said: “We aim to empower young people through education and motivate them to enjoy learning.
“We are always impressed by the creativity of our young people, especially when it comes to practical skills and artwork.
“This latest project is one we hope to continue after the summer holidays as it represents a message we are proud to support at Kibble.”
