RENFREW residents can help support local children as part of a £5million grant scheme.
It comes after Tesco launched their new grant scheme, Stronger Starts, to support schools and children’s groups with funding for food and healthy activities.
Now, the supermarket is asking for customers in the town to do their bit by voting with blue tokens in store for one of three local schools or young person’s projects.
The money which is then awarded to the good causes will help them provide nutritious food and healthy activities that support youngsters' physical health and mental well-being.
The new scheme also comes after research from Groundwork, which supports the initiative, found that 78% of schools are having to provide food for kids from their own budget.
While research carried out by Tesco in July revealed that 51% of parents agree that their child struggles to concentrate at school if they do not have breakfast.
Claire De Silva, Head of Communities and Local Media said: “We are so excited to be bringing thousands of schools and children’s projects out Stronger Starts grants.
“Our aim is to inspire children who deserve the opportunity to thrive and give our customers the chance to vote with their blue token for their local schools and children’s project that need extra help.”
Schools and youth groups will be able to apply for the grants via Groundwork.
