Upgrade works are set to kick-off shortly at Paisley’s Durrockstock Park in a move that will “bring a real boost” to the area.

Improvements to the footbridge at the beauty spot will “begin imminently”, while repairs to the pond edge have been earmarked to start at the end of the month.

The enhancements will complement previous investment in the site, which benefitted from the arrival of new play equipment last summer.

SNP councillor Stephen Burns, who represents the Paisley Southwest ward, believes the works will make a “big difference” at the park.

He told the Local Democracy Reporting Service this week: “It’s great to see these works are now coming together.

“The footbridge has suffered from a bit of wear and tear, so I’m glad to see that’s a priority for the council, and repairs to the pond edge have been needed for some time because it’s collapsing.

“Officers have worked up the proposals and the improvements are about to get underway.

“It’s an important part of the park for people and this will make a big difference. It will bring a real boost to the area.

“Both aspects of the work are important from a safety standpoint but general appearance matters too.

“By getting this done, it will help spruce it up. You can get a lot of rubbish around the side of the pond, so hopefully it will help with that as well.

“We had the new play park open, which has been great, children and families have enjoyed that, and these additional works will add to the good feeling around the park.

“People in the community enjoy Durrockstock Park and it means a lot to them, so they want to see it kept in a good condition.”

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “Work at Durrockstock Park is due to begin imminently to improve the footbridge, while repairs to the wall of the pond are scheduled to begin on July 31.”
