A PUB in Paisley is hoping to give young musicians a “small step on the ladder” to achieving their dreams.
It comes after The Crown Bar on Broomlands Street announced they would be offering out their venue to students and/or youngsters in the town who are looking to become musicians.
We previously reported that the pub said they would be happy to hand the place over on a Wednesday or Thursday as a practice venue – allowing those keen to build confidence and hone their skills.
Jacqueline Hutton, who runs the bar, told The Gazette the idea was something that was batted around for a few months.
The 67-year-old said the pub then took on Barry Glassford, who owns Business Networking, to manage their social media channels.
Jacqueline said: “We spoke to Barry as we have taken him on board to make our social media profiles a bit better.
“We then suggested the idea to him, and he came up with putting it out the way he did on social media – as in the lounge is empty on a Wednesday and Thursday night, so, why not see if there are any young musicians there who would like to come along and try out their skills and get a bit more experience.”
She added: “We thought about an open-mic night but because we’re just a wee bit out of the way when it comes to Paisley town centre – we tend to get bypassed.
“So, the staff and I talked about it a few times and we thought well ‘we will just go for it and see if we can give it a go’.
“We’re trying to get a wee bit more into the community and give a wee bit more to the community.”
On top of wanting to help musicians, the pub runner said they will also be looking at setting up a comedy night for young comedians too – later this year.
The 67-year-old said: “Everyone needs to gain some practice and gain some experience. If we can give them a small step on the ladder, then all is well and good.”
