A Renfrew man has told of his disappointment after three local benches he renovated with the help of his grandson were vandalised.
Steven Adair, 57, fitted new seat tops to the benches located along the Clyde Walkway in late 2021 after noticing the original wood had started to rot.
He was assisted by his 11-year-old grandson Logan, who helped carry the materials and tools to each bench.
Steven said it was "disheartening" when he discovered this morning that all three benches had been damaged and scrawled with graffiti.
He told The Gazette: "They have been vandalised before and I sanded it down and re-varnished them, but this time it is really bad.
"When we refitted the seat tops, the benches were great and it was brilliant to see people getting use out of them.
"It was absolutely fantastic to see people sitting on them to have their fish and chips, as well as watching the Waverley go by."
Steven believes there is a shortage of youth clubs in Renfrew that is resulting in anti-social behaviour in the town.
He said: "It's frustrating to see your work vandalised but in all honesty, I expected this to happen.
"I think for Renfrew as a whole, we don't do enough for kids nowadays. There used to be youth clubs they could go to but there's none of that anymore.
"Places like the old police station and the India Tyres building are being left to rot instead of being turned into new youth centres.
"So I can see why youths are vandalising property, but it does make your efforts in vain."
