A popular Paisley cafe has caused a stir by winning a prestigious honour.

Spoons Coffee House, in Causeyside Street, has been named Best Cafe in Renfrewshire at the Scotlands Business Awards on Sunday night.

The team's triumph at the event in Glasgow follows the business winning the title of Best Coffee Shop in Scotland at last year's finals.

James Carmichael, owner of Spoons Coffee House, said the team were "over the moon" about their latest achievement.

The Gazette:

He told The Gazette: "We've only been here for three years and have won two years in a row, which is really good.

"It's nice for the staff to be appreciated for what they're doing and, as much as it is hard work every day, these awards show we are doing something right.

"I think customers like the good food and friendly staff, and we also sponsor charities such as the Beatson Cancer Charity."

The cafe's latest award has also served as a morale boost in the midst of the cost-of-living crisis.

James said: "Every day is a struggle to just try and keep the place going, especially with the energy prices and cost of food going phenomenally through the roof.

The Gazette:

"It's getting harder, as you don't want your customers to get hit with rising prices but you can't keep getting hit by them yourself.

"I would like to thank my staff and the people of Paisley who keep us going."

Spoons Coffee House is now set to compete in the national finals of Scotlands Business Awards, which will take place later this year.

James added: "The final should be a good night.

"At the awards ceremony on Sunday, it was just me and my wife who went, so I think for the final we'll take all the staff."
