A DRIVING instructor from Paisley has passed the selection test and earned herself a call-up to represent Scotland in a major hockey tournament.
Jen Owen, a self-employed instructor will represent Scotland in the 45s age group in the GB&I 4 Nations Masters hockey tournament in Swansea in June, and then at the World Masters Hockey European Championships in Nottingham in July.
Looking forward to being involved in the Masters programme, Jen, 45, said: “One or two people had always said to give it a go so here I am.
“I’ve been a member at the local club, Kelburne Hockey Club, for 40 years.
“I went along to the 'Jockey Hockey' on a Saturday morning with my twin sister Lindsay and never looked back.
“Over the years I’ve played National League and currently play West District Division 2.”
Recently, the Paisley woman took part in warm-up matches against North West England and Yorkshire, and North East England select teams in Edinburgh.
Jen said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my first weekend of competitive Masters hockey. The standard was great.
The driving instructor, who is “thrilled” to be able to represent Scotland, continued to say: “It’s great to be part of the squad and I’m looking forward to the Masters fixtures ahead.
“Being selected was a great boost and demonstrates that you are never too old.”
