A FORMER hockey internationalist allegedly murdered a woman on the night of his wedding anniversary.
Craig Walker, 41, is accused of killing Lauren Wilson at his flat in Renfrew on May 26, 2021.
Today, his wife Seonid told jurors how he had repeatedly denied having an affair with Lauren.
Mrs Walker, 38, split from her husband in 2020 but they had discussed a reconciliation and were due to go out for an anniversary meal on the night of the alleged murder.
However, that was scuppered when air traffic controller Walker said he had been delayed as he had to clean a large "coffee stain" on his carpet.
Instead, he later brought a takeaway meal but left Mrs Walker's home without eating anything.
Walker denies murdering 34-year-old Lauren, as well as putting her in a large bag and planning to dispose of the body.
Mrs Walker told the High Court in Glasgow how she met her husband through Kelburne Hockey Club, in Paisley, and they got married in 2012.
She said she played the sport for "fun" but he took it "more seriously."
Mrs Walker told the trial he played for Scotland, as well as "briefly" for the Great Britain team.
She added they had "unexpectedly" separated in the summer of 2020.
Walker moved out of the family home in Paisley and initially stayed at the Normandy Hotel, in Renfrew, before he then got his own flat in the town.
Despite the split, they kept in regular contact and discussed getting back together.
The court heard there were plans for him to move back in at the end of May 2021.
Jurors were told their ninth wedding anniversary was on May 26 and a dinner had been planned for that night at a local golf club.
Mrs Walker recalled getting a friend request on Facebook from Lauren that month.
She thought this was "strange" and quizzed her husband, who claimed to have known Lauren "from years ago."
The court was told she had also seen a text message that Lauren sent to Walker.
Prosecutor David Dickson asked Mrs Walker: "Did he say that he was in a relationship with her?"
She replied: "No, he denied it every time."
Mrs Walker was at work as an assistant air traffic controller when she said Lauren appeared to try to call her on May 26.
She told the trial: "I knew then that there was definitely something going on."
Mrs Walker contacted her husband, who claimed they would speak to Lauren together.
Later that afternoon, Walker returned their son to Mrs Walker before they were all due to go out for dinner.
Mr Dickson asked the witness: "When with you, did he ask if he could take anything?"
Mrs Walker replied: "He asked if we still had the carpet cleaner. He took it and the detergent for it."
Mr Dickson then asked: "Did he give you any explanation as to why he wanted the carpet cleaner?"
She replied: "He had spilt coffee."
Mrs Walker also recalled later getting in contact with him to ask about the meal at the golf club.
He claimed he was "p***ing sweat" from cleaning the coffee stain.
Walker later sent another message stating he was a "d**k," while apologising for being late and "spoiling" his wife's day.
He eventually returned with a takeaway but no food for himself.
Mr Dickson asked: "Did he eat anything?"
Mrs Walker said: "No, he said that he was not hungry."
The prosecutor continued: "It was meant to be your wedding anniversary dinner?"
She replied: "Yes."
Walker went on to watch the first half of the Europa League final on television that night before leaving.
The jury was told the last contact Mrs Walker had with her husband that evening was to update him on the score.
The trial, before Lady Stacey, continues.
