POLICE are probing a race attack on a Johnstone shopkeeper.
The incident took place on Sunday night as a customer at Premier Off Sales, in the town’s High Street, who was refused service subjected the owner to a series of racial slurs.
Police said the same customer had stolen a crate of cider two hours earlier as goods were being unloaded.
Staff gave chase and forced the man to hand back the booze but did not report the incident.
The same man then returned to the store around 8pm to buy some drink but was told he was barred.
At this point, he racially abused the 56-year-old owner.
The yob is described as in his mid-40s and is believed to live locally.
Anyone who has information is asked to call officers on 101.
