A NUMBER of long-awaited events have been cancelled in recent days in a bid to tackle the spread of the coronavirus.
From concerts, to football matches, and much-loved cattle shows, many of East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire's weekend attractions are being held back for a later date.
It comes as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced measures to stop all public gatherings of more than 500 people to alleviate pressure on emergency services.
Here is the full list of cancelled/postponed events across East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire:
Renfrewshire
- COUNCIL bosses have announced all large-scale local authority-run events have been cancelled until the end of June. This includes the popular Paisley Food and Drink Festival and British Pipe Band Championships.
- ORGANISERS of the Bishopton Art and Craft Fair have cancelled this year’s event amid fears over the spread of coronavirus. This was due to take place on Saturday.
- The most recent meeting of the Johnstone Community Council was cancelled last week.
- Football matches and sporting events across Scotland have been postponed, including St Mirren's Premiership fixtures. It is unclear how long the suspension will last, but it is expected to be months.
- Kilbarchan's Lilias Day remains on for now but organisers have announced the cancellation of several build-up events. This includes Tuesday's Stall Holders Night and Costume Fitting Day on Saturday.
- Lochwinnoch RSPB have cancelled a star-gazing night which was due to take place on Friday.
- Paisley Abbey Choir have cancelled a concert due to be held on Sunday.
- Corseford TARA has cancelled its AGM which was due to take place on Tuesday. A spokesperson for TARA said: "Based on advice around public meetings and news that certain important representatives have been advised by authorities and employers not to attend public meetings, the Tara have decided to postpone the AGM on Tuesday 17th March until further notice.
We will update you when we arrange a new date. Thank you for your understanding and continued support."
- Erskine Bike Meet, which was due to take place on Sunday, May 31, has been cancelled. Organisers say: "We have been closely monitoring the situation with #COVIDー19 & after much consideration we have made the decision to cancel [the event]."
- Johnstone Burgh have announced their sportsman's dinner which was due to take place later this month has been postponed until October.
- Accord Hospice's It's a Knockout has been cancelled.
- Lochwinnoch Gala Day, scheduled to take place in June, has been cancelled.
- All upcoming events at Waterstones in intu Brahead have been cancelled.
- Whitelee Visitor Centre is closed to visitors.
- Saturday's Salvation Army Craft Fair and Cafe event in Paisley has been cancelled.
- All organised group activities due to take place in Renfrewshire libraries have been postponed, including the Digital Music Making Night, Coderdojos and Bookbug sessions.
- Lynnhurst Hotel, in Johnstone, has closed its doors until further notice.
- Renfrewshire Leisure services will stop being delivered until further notice.
- This year's Johnstone Gala Day and all upcoming Johnstone Community Council meetings have been cancelled until further notice.
East Renfrewshire
- Neilston Cattle Show has been cancelled for this year.
- Saturday's Barrhead Salvation Army coffee morning has been postponed due to coronavirus fears.
- Druids of Caledon’s Public Festival of the Spring Equinox in Rouken Glen Park has been cancelled.
- Art For Easter Competition & Exhibition in Maxwell Mearns Castle Parish Church has been postponed.
- Maxwell Mearns Castle Church Family Funday has also been cancelled.
- Sunday worship and other meetings at the Church of the Latter-day Saints, Damshot Crescent, Pollock, are suspended until further notice.
- The Busby and Clarkston Horticultural Society have cancelled their meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 19.
- Community organisation The Market Place, based in Barrhead, have cancelled all events taking place after Friday until further notice.
- East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure have closed all services and venues until further notice.

- Eastwood Park Theatre, in Giffnock, is closed to the public until further notice and upcoming shows have been postponed.
